Vessels of Care

Vessels of Care

Differing from other craft-based workshops at Greener and Cleaner, Vessels of Care Workshop Series, as part of the Connect the Buds Youth Programme, utilised slow stitching as a supportive anchor for individual and shared reflections to explore the nuanced formation of care, which was gradually unfolded and diversely held across two sessions by participants through their engaging and transitional responses.

From Part 1 to Part 2, participants travelled from heartfelt chats reminiscing about endearing moments of being deeply cared for to introspective conversations exploring the complexities in balancing self-care and offering care to others. Over this progression, the focus of the room also shifted from appreciating care received individually in a wide range of forms to collectively deepening thoughts on tackling shared difficulties in self-care. This transition was also reflected in the naturally evolving effect brought from the act of stitching - it held rooms for relaxation and light-hearted chats in Part 1, while becoming a useful grounding tool for deep focusing and contemplation in Part 2.

The precious thread running through both sessions that also took on transformative forms was the engagement of attentiveness. In Part 1, this thread was held through interconnectedness, shining through particularly during the co-creation activities, with participants eager to collaboratively transform personal experiences and shared insights into resonant and playful drawings that celebrated one another's contributions. The thread was then turned inward in Part 2 as participants dived deeper into their own minds and stitching gestures, paying closer attention to self-observation that led to in-depth shared dialogues of newly gained awareness.

By holding space for individuals to express themselves, the socio-emotional experiences across the series, from shared joyfulness to deepened reflections, were uniquely shaped by each participant's attentive response. Like a vessel holding multiple forms of attentiveness expressed through gestures and conversations that informed and supported one another, the series itself served as an embodiment of care that echoed the programme's proactive focus on fostering inclusivity, co-creation, and collective growth.
